Why does my ferret refuse to sleep in her hammock?

Ferrets in general love hammocks. If yours doesn’t seem to enjoy hers there may be some reason why.

Is it hung too high in the cage? Maybe she’s afraid to attempt getting in and out?

Is it perhaps made of a material which she doesn’t care for? Perhaps too stiff? Something that feels uncomfortable?

Some ferrets prefer sleep sacks, which they can crawl inside, to hammocks. Try placing a small blanket in the hammock which she can crawl beneath. Or use one of your old t-shirts in place of a blanket. Wear the shirt first. Many animals enjoy having their people’s smell nearby.

For whatever reason, occasionally a ferret just doesn’t want to sleep in a hammock no matter what you do. In that case, I would allow her to choose her spot. Just make sure that wherever she sleeps she has plenty of warm, soft, clean bedding in which to snuggle.
